Chris Kaman wouldn't need too much makeup to fit in with some Lord of the Rings characters with that beard.
Reports out of New Orleans are that the Hornets are actively shopping newly acquired center, Chris Kaman. He doesn't really fit into the future plans GM Dell Demps has for the team.
There are rumors floating around the inter webs that there is some moderate interest from the Cavaliers and GM Chris Grant. Kaman, who is in the final year of his deal which pays him $14 million this year, is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
Kaman has had a terrible start with the Hornets and about the only thing he's even done passably well is make his free throws. Wait, he's only shot 19 of them. Yea, he's been gross this year. He's a low efficiency big man who doesn't ever get to the stripe and seriously do anything even average except maybe grab defensive boards.
There is one scenario where we should be interested in Kaman, but no more. Find out what that is after the jump.
Let's say they don't value that unprotected Timberwolves pick they now have because the Wolves have been decent thus far. And let's pretend they're so desperate to get rid of Kaman's cash that they for some reason decided to strap that pick onto him in order to get something.
Then, let's go for it. Of course it's hard to believe they'd consider that because we don't have anyone we'd deal who is as valuable as that pick.
Alonzo Gee, an asset they would probably want, has looked fantastic for us in the early stages of this season and looks like he can definitely be a part of the future. I'd be leery actually of shipping him out in this deal because I'm a believer in him.
How would Chris Kaman's Expiring Contract pair with Antawn Jamison's Expiring Contract in the front court? Well, Kaman would almost certainly be bought out as we don't want to pay him that money and he'd rather probably go latch on to some contender.
I'd definitely send Omri Casspi to them and if they insisted I'd part with Luke Harangody, Ryan Hollins, Mychel Thompson, Christian Eyenga or Milan Mačvan.
None of these scenarios really seem all that likely, leading me to believe that the Cavaliers will most likely sit out the Chris Kaman "sweepstakes".

This is a head scratcher.
I don’t see why Minny would be so desperate to get rid of an expiring that they’d give away a lotto pick, late or not.
Maybe Grant has a super deal using Kaman and Antwan as a super expiring with someone, but that seems convoluted.

Not sure Kaman would be a worthy addition, but we do need another player of his size and strength.

Well, he expires after this year, and I am sure a team will throw a MLE at him, more than we’d be willing to play. If the Cavs acquire him, it will be part of a bigger deal.

Yea, we wouldn’t acquire him to bolster our center spot. It would be addition for a different reason, like maybe they don’t value that pick as high. But it really just doesn’t make sense because they’re desperately in need of young talent and I hope they would consider giving up the pick but in no way do I think they’ll consider dealing it just to get him off the books.

Kaman's slump is temporary, due to lack of purpose in N.O.
He was a good player back in the Clippers, a player any contender would be very happy to have as the backup center, who is also an adequate starter, if required.
I assume a championship contender, on a 6-7 mil. per year payroll, is the next step for him, after he goes free agent.

The Hornets are worse than us and the upcoming draft is a great one. They aren’t going to give up a probable lottery pick just to unload an unwanted player.
