After an off-season filled with doughnuts and KFC rap songs, Delonte West is now in the news for a very different reason. West was arrested last night near his off-season home in Maryland for weapons possession.
What makes the story even crazier is that West wasn't pulled over in a car. No, he was pulled over on his motorcycle -
West was pulled over by police on his 2009 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle in Brandywine, Md., at 10 p.m. Thursday night for excessive speed and making an unsafe lane change. A Prince George's County police spokesman said West had two handguns and a shotgun in his possession and he cooperated with police as he was placed under arrest. He has been released on his own recognizance.
Yes, you read it correctly, West was riding his motorcycle carrying two handguns and a shot gun - in almost Terminator 2-style.
Obviously we will retain all judgment on the amtter until all the facts are released. Any news regarding litigation, however, just prior to a team starting Training Camp, can't be considered good news, however.
UPDATE - Per Brian Windhorst's Tweet's, the situation with Delonte West isn't getting any better -
Details on Delonte getting worse, from Wash. Post: 9 mm in waistband, .357 strapped to leg and shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back
Windhorst went on to say -
Also, apparently he was pulled over after cutting off a police cruiser on the highway. All guns were loaded.
Update from Wash. Post after the break -

Delonte West, a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was driving a three-wheeled motorcycle north on Interstate 95 near Route 214 in the Largo area when he cut off a Prince George's County police officer, authorities said. The officer pulled him over, and West told the officer that he was carrying a handgun in his waistband.
That prompted the officer to call for backup, and investigators found that West was actually carrying three guns: a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
West, who is 26 and lives in Brandywine, was arrested and charged with speeding and two counts of carrying a handgun, Ellis said. He was released today on personal recognizance, according to Ellis and online court records.
Ellis said it was unclear where West was going and why he was armed.

It doesnt say that the guns are unregistered. And its not like he brought them into a night club.
BradyQuinnisBeast - September 18, 2009
Cops should have let him go
If you are able to conceal 2 handguns and a SHOTGUN while driving a motorcycle, you should get some props for that
Max_in_Missouri - September 18, 2009
Um, they weren't too concealed...
Yes, he was able to fit a shotgun in a guitar-case, but I doubt the cops had trouble finding it.

Only Delonte
If it were any other member of the NBA, I’d look at this as another shameful act of professional stupidity. But, since it was Delonte, all I can do is laugh. In all seriousness though, I really hope this doesn’t turn too ugly for him, I love the guy!

Does anyone know if the MD gun laws are like the NY ones?
pslakerfan - September 18, 2009
I’m not sure about MD gun laws, but from I think the 3 things he was charged with were 1) Carrying concealed firearms 2) Carrying them while loaded, and 3) Speeding (gasp)

loaded shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, two loaded hand guns hidden at different spots on his body, in the city, after dark, speeding on a motorcycle…. some unstable, scary behavior. delonte’s got some explainin to do.

Dont we have the right to bear arms?
BradyQuinnisBeast - September 18, 2009
Yes, in Ohio it is actually very easy to do so, and assuming you don’t have a criminal record it’s not much harder to legally conceal them, but I don’t know the specifics in MD.
I just don’t understand why some of these sports stars don’t simply go the legal route. Perhaps, they just lack some common sense based on their upbringing (frequent inner city gun trade).

Yeah, but you have to do it responsibly. You can’t be driving down the highway on a motorcycle with three loaded guns — that’s just stupid.

what a dumb ass, lebron doesnt need this, the cavs dont need this. does anyone know how many years he has left with us? and if this means we can fire him without paying out the rest of his contract? could mean more $$$ for 2010

Carrying 3 loaded Guns is not Terrible.
Getting caught by Police with said loaded guns is.
I have always wondered why these guys do not pay people to drive them and Hold their guns…
I hope the best for him. As I hate Police.
BS Patrol - September 19, 2009
I love Delonte, but frankly I’m glad he was caught by the police before he did something stupid with those guns.

Not a problem with this at all
All Professional players should be carrying hand guns at all times. If the NBA fines or suspenses him for this I am going to be very upset. He meant no harm to anyone. Good for Delonte.

you have got to be kidding me. this is one of the most ridiculous comments in your long history of ridiculous comments.
DontCallMeJoey - September 21, 2009
Prove this.
rolub - September 28, 2009
Prove that he did?
E5 - September 28, 2009
I know a lot of guys that carry illegal guns
and they have no intention of using them. Its just for protection….and they aren’t paranoid and making millions of dollars a year. One would think that only increases the paranoia and feel they really need the protection offered by a gun(s)
