The 2009 NBA Draft is here, and might be the least exciting news of the day around the NBA. First it was Shaq to Cleveland, then Vinsanity to Orlando. Can anything that happens tonight even come close to that?
Get comfy, because the Cavaliers won't pick until #30, unless of course they make a move to acquire(buy) a pick from a less financially fortunate team. Talk about the draft here!

can i go on the record as saying i believe ricky rubio will be a bust, please?
that is all.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Did you see where Brandon Jennings called him out?
He just looks like the typical over-hyped foreign player.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
he really does. plus, PG is traditionally a really hard position to translate from high school or overseas, especially young overseas. t. parker being the exception, obviously, but it took him time, and a hall of fame teammate, to get there.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Looks like he’s about to fall.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
keep him in the green room. evans is a much better pro.
can’t believe curry is going to be a top-10 pick either.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
He came out of nowhere in the last week. I was reading a couple mock drafts a few months ago, and there was debate over whether he would even be a first round pick.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
I really like Rubio
Roger Dorn - June 25, 2009
rubio
Is that a counter tp espn calling him the next pistol Pete
tarley - June 25, 2009
that’s what spawned the comment, yeah. i can’t stand fran fraschilla, i think he has no idea what he’s talking about…i’d love to roll some old tape of him going on and on about nikola tskitishvilli or some other massive foreign bust.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Grizz take Thabeet
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Thabeet is going to be a bust. He has no offensive game whatsoever.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
dude…he’s got marc gasol to tutor him…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Oh, right, my bad.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
That chick next to Rubio is ugly
E5 - June 25, 2009
harden is nice. good pick there for OKC.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
NBA Draft Live Blog
thesportsgeeks.com is holding an NBA Draft Live Blog, and we’d love for some people to argue with us, especially about the blatant idiocy of trading Rondo. come check it out. We’re also talking about how Shaq could be the next KG, and how the Cavs need to try and imitate the Celtics when putting together a championship team. We also are talking about how Thabeets suit is an achievement in tailoring. Join in, it’ll be fun.
'Shard's Goatee - June 25, 2009
You’ve sold me! (Bolts away from FTS)
Chris Pokorny - June 25, 2009
Windhorst is tweeting that the Cavs will go after the Twolves pick at 18 if the Wolves get Rubio.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Well there is Rubio
who are we getting at 18?
E5 - June 25, 2009
Better not be Hansbourgh that guy sucks
E5 - June 25, 2009
Any particular reason why it was contingent on Rubio?
gahnki - June 25, 2009
He doesn’t say, but I suspect that Rubio was the guard the Twolves really wanted.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Rumors were that the Wolves wanted to package the 18th pick along with either 5 or 6 to move up to get Rubio. Since they got him at 5 they may be able to trade that pick now.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Makes sense. It would make sense for the Wolves to stockpile youth considering they aren’t very good, but who knows what the Cavs are offering.
Wow, they take Flynn as well. That’s a lot of point guards.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Ha, I was just thinking that the Cavs should try to do that. They could get a good player at 18 (Sam Young!).
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Well, there goes Rubio.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Fylnn ?
E5 - June 25, 2009
Flynn and Rubio?
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Probably a trade in the works.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Prob not Minnesota sucks.
E5 - June 25, 2009
huh?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
i would have to imagine. i can’t see how rubio/flynn works, especially at 5/6…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Love it NY can't get Curry LOL
E5 - June 25, 2009
Warriors get Acie Law and Speedy Claxton from the Hawks for Jamal Crawford.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
What a reach for Curry at 7.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
seriously
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
DeRozan would be good for the Knicks. He can run well in their “chuck and duck” system.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
derozan is a baller, he would have been a great fit for the knicks. he’ll be steal-ish (as much as a lottery pick can be a steal)
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
He’s a Raptor.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Welcome to New York, Jordan Hill. Feel the boos.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
donnie walsh: jordan is a very nice guy.
don’t see how this can miss, donnie
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
According to Windhorst, the Cavs get to keep their second round pick this year because they weren’t allowed to trade it on a technicality. So now the Suns will get next year’s second round pick instead. Maybe the Cavs can use that pick to help trade up in the first round?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Milwaukee really wanted DeRozen awesome
E5 - June 25, 2009
henderson to milwaukee? no jefferson, and no derozan…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
This draft is weak.
E5 - June 25, 2009
another awful pick for the Bucks
E5 - June 25, 2009
Jennings has the KidNPlay hair going bigtime in that footage.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Jennings stiffed the draft room LOL
E5 - June 25, 2009
that is WAY high for williams, no? wow.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
I saw a lot of mock drafts having him go around 11-15 so I’m not surprised.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
i didn’t see him much higher than 18-20.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Really? Everything I read had him going 20-early second round.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Chad Ford’s mock draft at ESPN had him going at 11.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
even a broken clock…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Well that was just one example.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
mostly kidding…more of a comment on ford and his history.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Wow, Williams is gone already. That’s higher than any mock draft had him.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Damn, I really liked Williams.
Bernie19Kosar - June 25, 2009
Awful pick of henderson
that guy is a role player AT BEST!
E5 - June 25, 2009
Jordan drafts a Blue Devil.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
the ‘cats can’t help but take in-state players (felton, may). they haven’t exactly hit homers with those so far…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
They are trying to buy tickets
but it isn’t working
E5 - June 25, 2009
It’s amazing how the greatest player to ever play the game has no eye for talent.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
it really is. i’ve heard he doesn’t like to put the work in…he trusts his gut.
two words: adam morrison (or kwame brown, if you prefer)
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
HAHAHA…Hansbrough at 13. What a waste.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Yeah that’s really high for him.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
extremely
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
he’s such a stiff, too
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
i’m shocked that vitale loves the hansbrough pick. shocked.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
That really surprised me
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
anyone else think it’s pretty tasteless to have the annoucers’ comments broadcast throughout the whole arena? how do you think it went over w/ gerald henderson and his family to hear bilas say “not a very high basketball IQ”…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Ironically, Daye was the guy I picked for the Cavs in the Ball Don’t Lie/SBNation Mock Draft….
John Bena (aka CavsBlogger) - June 25, 2009
shows what a reach he was for Detroit
E5 - June 25, 2009
I just saw that — why didn’t you post something about that on here? I didn’t even know you were doing that.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
So here’s the part where I admit I know next to nothing about any of these people in the draft. This was the first year I only even tacitly followed NCAA basketball.
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Yep. I only know the people who are falling from big programs.
On that note, is anyone else shocked that Jrue Holliday is still on the board?
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Dude I don’t even know who that is. I know a few of the dudes that played for UNC.
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
having watched him play some last year (i live on the west coast), not really. he’s got great potential, had big hype coming out of high school, didn’t show up great at UCLA.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Just spoke him to being drafted
Who is next?
E5 - June 25, 2009
Sam Young.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
And right when I question why he’s still on the board, he goes off the board to Philadelphia.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
do it again…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Hmmm, I thought Daye was a surprise here, but Chad Ford has this one picked as well. His mock draft is actually pretty accurate so far.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
He is an insider it should be.
E5 - June 25, 2009
True, but a lot of mock drafts (even by those who know people) are off because surprises always happen.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Guess he knows the idiot GM's best.
E5 - June 25, 2009
The Knicks just bought the Lakers 29th pick.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
I just have no idea how to gauge whether or not a dude will be good coming out of college
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
I liked Lebron out of high school
E5 - June 25, 2009
Ha, that’s a good bet
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Cavs Pick?
E5 - June 25, 2009
sadly no it not looking that way
tarley - June 25, 2009
Minnesota's draft room looked much busier this time around
Trade?Cavs??
E5 - June 25, 2009
i have NO idea…but as a guess, i’d say the cavs don’t get a deal done for this pick.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
for any pick we have very little to deal here and not really worth it now I don’t think
tarley - June 25, 2009
i agree that it isn’t particularly worth it
that said, this seems like it’s gotta be a pick for someone else, right? no way they’re going w/ 3 pg’s
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Jeff Teague is my guess
to the Wolves why not
E5 - June 25, 2009
LOL
PG’s LOL
E5 - June 25, 2009
The T-wolves have to be picking for someone else. A third point guard?
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Cavs???
E5 - June 25, 2009
have to be. no clue if it’s the cavs, but they HAVE to be moving at least one of these guys.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Wow, three guards?
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Ty Lawson… I didn’t think they would take another PG.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
moving to nuggets.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
they can’t be wanting to trade one of these guys can they
tarley - June 25, 2009
PG run right now.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
It continues…Collison is the 5th PG to go in a row.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
good call. you’re 2-for-2-ish
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
quick straw poll: do the cavs move out of 30?
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
I don’t think so not unless they see gold where I see silver
tarley - June 25, 2009
NO
time has passed not worth it.
E5 - June 25, 2009
i say no, although if mullens falls much further i could see them getting the phones going
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Mullens is a flop
no way do I want him and I love THE OHIO STATE
E5 - June 25, 2009
he seems pretty skilled for a young 7-footer, and who better to learn from than Z and shaq
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Skilled at being below average you mean
E5 - June 25, 2009
interestingly, that is not what i mean. i see how you could be confused, though
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Is that a skill?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
pros: he is excellent at not being very good
cons: he is not very strong a being quite good
i can see it spun as a skill
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
they are not allowed to i believe. there seems to be a silly nba rule that a team cannot not have a 1st round pick 2 years in a row. lame one there.
sether1 - June 25, 2009
i didn’t mean move out of the first round, i meant move up higher.
also, i think the rule you’re referring to is that a team cannot trade away its first round pick in consecutive years.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
gotcha, trying to speed read through all the comments. still a silly rule.
sether1 - June 25, 2009
Sam Young fall to the Cavs at 30?
E5 - June 25, 2009
No way.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
I would love that but he won’t last that long. Maybe the Cavs can move up to 25 or so and get him.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
hopes are high in Cleveland
tarley - June 25, 2009
Lots of talented
big player left?
E5 - June 25, 2009
seems like it, yeah
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
I don’t really know I say we wait till the 8th when we can sign a F/A and get a wallace or someone
tarley - June 25, 2009
Sam Young, DaJuan Summers, Taj Gibson??? anyone of them work for me.
E5 - June 25, 2009
if they stay up there
tarley - June 25, 2009
huh?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
use the reply button
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
sorry I was replying to they guy that said any of them will work for me
tarley - June 25, 2009
WTF Dallas?
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
that trade looked bad to me anyone else
tarley - June 25, 2009
Shaquille O’Neal: Cavaliers Center
I’m sorry, but that is f***ing cool as hell to see
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
yes sir
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Portland really likes those foreign players.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
fraschilla just said of the blazers pick: small forward who can run and jump, shoot the ball
and he was serious. great analysis. i think we knew that, given that he is in a basketball draft.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Wow.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
i don’t understand this theme that mark jackson has picked up that the cavs need to do more, that they are not a better team today by just trading for shaq. of course they are…that’s just a ridiculous statement.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
he just can’t admit how good we will be
tarley - June 25, 2009
we gave up at best an 8th man , and a guy who is injury pron and can’t score
tarley - June 25, 2009
Damn. Mullens gone to Dallas.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
agreed
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
i think we should’ve kept sasha. …….. ha, can’t even keep a straight face reading that
sether1 - June 25, 2009
so any one else think its funny that the t’wolfs are begging for rubio in a trade
tarley - June 25, 2009
elaborate
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
saw a draft buzz on yahoo I guess T wolfs are trying to get a deal done thats all it really said they really like him
tarley - June 25, 2009
they took him at 5
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
But they already drafted Rubio.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
sorry wrong knicks are in talks or something I am lost
tarley - June 25, 2009
LOL, I believe our friend here is talking about this.
Knicks are in talks for Rubio.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
thank you
tarley - June 25, 2009
I read wrong and have completely lost my mind I will shamefully walk away from this now
tarley - June 25, 2009
Mullens going to OKC in a trade.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
I thought OKC was going to draft him in the first place. Probably a good fit for him. OKC is building something.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Yeah they have a nice collection of young players. They can wait for him to develop.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
they really do. if mullens pans out, they are really really tough.
what’s the other side of the deal?
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Dallas gets their pick, some foreign guy.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
That’s it? Why didn’t Dallas just draft the foreign guy in the first place then?
gahnki - June 25, 2009
yeah I thought the same thing
tarley - June 25, 2009
not sure, there might be something else involved.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
didn’t the OKC pick just get moved to CHI? all this movement, i think i’m confused…
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
disregard, please
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
I’ve been there welcome to the party
tarley - June 25, 2009
Draft
…..Still Available……
* Josh Heytvelt 6’11" 260 15 ppg 5 rpg Gonzaga
Come on Cav’s get this animal now !!
stealth43 - June 25, 2009
3 more
tarley - June 25, 2009
Sam Young still there, wow. Only 3 more picks to go. . .
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Sam Young still there only 2 picks to go…
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
two more, and ellington there too.
i’m kind of a Blair fan too… i’d take any of the three.
rolub - June 25, 2009
although this sadly reminds me of when the cavs passed on ron artest to take trajan langdon, and i was furious. little did i know how exciting it would have been to have Crazy Ron Artest in cleveland.
rolub - June 25, 2009
that memphis – carroll pick helps us out as far as options at 30
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
So which PG will Minnesota take this time?
gahnki - June 25, 2009
they may take flynn again
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
knicks or LA before us could be fun
tarley - June 25, 2009
i hopw blair and young dont go 28 and 29
Sizemorgasim - June 25, 2009
hope sorry
Sizemorgasim - June 25, 2009
Another guard for Minnesota – this time Ellington.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
you know what were lucky this draft wasn’t like James draft class or these 4 draft picks could have been big
tarley - June 25, 2009
Sam Young here we come.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
wow…our pick of pitt big men.
i say young over blair, personally
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Yep. Blair is too much like Hickson.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
And the Cavs are on the clock with Sam Young available.
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
Woo-hoo!!! Cavs on the board and Sam Young still there!
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Wow! He actually fell to the Cavs…
ilamuku - June 25, 2009
DaJuan Summers
E5 - June 25, 2009
Gotta be Young here….Blair has too many question-marks, especially with two bad knees….
John Bena (aka CavsBlogger) - June 25, 2009
what, no tractor traylor jr?
sether1 - June 25, 2009
he’d be perfect… hope he’s the guy.
rolub - June 25, 2009
the fact that shaq won one reg season MVP is criminal
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
only one
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
that doesn’t seem possible, oh yeah, steve nash stole a few
sether1 - June 25, 2009
DaJuan Summers
can defend Lewis and Hedo go get him he is starring you in the face.
E5 - June 25, 2009
Eyenga!
rolub - June 25, 2009
SAY WHAT???
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
What the f***?
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Who?
E5 - June 25, 2009
WHAT!?!?!?!?!
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
What the hell just happened?
woodsmeister - June 25, 2009
the best pick in the draft just happened!
notice the lack of highlights/comments from ESPN?
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Agreed
oxforddave - June 25, 2009
I can’t believe this guy is actually there
ahowie - June 25, 2009
he had to buy a ticket, too.
rolub - June 25, 2009
This is even more surprising than last year
ahowie - June 25, 2009
our draft room was drunk
tarley - June 25, 2009
I knew I'd be disappointed after we didn't trade up for Wayne Ellington
but wow.
What the hell?
Hardcore Legend - June 25, 2009
i’m so confused
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Christian Eyenga
ESPN player profile if anyone is interested.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Um, don;t we like, need players who can help now? Why not Young?
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
7 ft wingspan on 6’5"? dang!
sether1 - June 25, 2009
Hmmm….I like the highlights. This is a pick for the future.
But, why, when there are players on the board who can help now? This doesn’t make sense.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
i think ferys hoping to find that in F/A
tarley - June 25, 2009
is this a money move, too? stash him away in spain for another couple of years and keep him of the cap for next summer?
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
Possibly.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
that’s the only thing i can figure, with blair, young, summers, budinger and brown staring at you

SCOUTING REPORT
Positives: Raw but he has a wingspan of nearly 7 feet, which is superb for a shooting guard/small forward, with good court quickness and lateral agility…Very good natural tools…Showed improvement creating his own shot along the perimeter and has surprising quickness slashing to the basket…Has increased his weight and improved his strength to better handle punishment inside…Draws contact on the way to the basketball, using his length well to finish with dunks and aggressively attacking the rim…Explosive leaper who is starting to come into his own on the defensive end, ranking fourth in the league in blocked shots last season…Has the elevation, reach and timing to contest shots regularly…Has an NBA-ready body and is powerful enough to take on bigger frontcourt players trying to establish position under the basket (pulled down 127 boards in 29 games in 2008-09)…Improved his hand usage in his second year with the team, uses his low center of gravity and lateral agility to get into the passing lanes and cause problems (27 steals in 2008-09)…Creates mismatches vs. small forwards with an explosive first step to beat his man off the dribble and is slowly developing a nice array of moves (spins, hesitations, fakes) to slip away and get space to take his jumper…His ball-handling skills are a work in progress, but he has decent passing ability when double-teamed…His basketball IQ still is developing, but he is not as easily fooled by shooters despite limited basketball experience…Good finisher in transition and has improved his scoring touch from the foul line…More comfortable at the two-guard position, but shows the athleticism to take on small forwards and as his frame continues to mature, he will more likely reside there in the NBA…Demonstrates decent passing ability to the open outlet to also earn some minutes at point forward…Can score off the dribble and has developed a nice fade-away jumper…Demonstrates fluid mechanics, can get his shot up and over much taller opponents…Attacks the lane with a vengeance and can hang in the air to draw contact…Times his leaps to come down with the ball or get up to put it back at its high point…Patient player who lets the action come to him rather than try to force the issue…Can get to the basket after being fed the ball off screens…Will sacrifice his body to chase loose balls…Uses his reach and keeps his arms active to steal the ball or change shots when applying pressure defense…Sets his feet to uncork his mid-range jumper…Crowd pleaser with aggressiveness going to the rim, whether on the break or by going over the opponent…Shows good shooting for firing from behind the arc, demonstrating that sudden release and elevation connecting from the outside…Is quick and elusive with the ability to vary speeds…Has solid overall defensive skills and will not hesitate to draw a charge.
Negatives: Still in the developmental stage and could have used a few more years with the parent Joventut team to mature, but the organization is having financial issues, which contributed to Eyenga’s decision and he might be a strong candidate for the D-League…Has a high release point to get the ball over defenders, but pushes the ball quite a bit and needs to develop better rotation and accuracy and balance shooting from the perimeter…Still learning how to trust his off hand, is too predictable as a scorer, constantly favoring his right hand…Has excellent elevation, but will leave his feet early and doesn’t have natural timing as a rebounder…Was forced to play power forward and will need a few years to develop a well-round game on the wing, as his frame will never develop into an NBA type four-forward.
Compares To: NICOLAS BATUM, Portland — Eyenga needs time to acclimate to the NBA and also to playing on the wing. He has developing offensive skills, but could be a nice value pick for a team willing to nurture him by bringing him off the bench due to his defensive presence. He is more quick than he is fast, but has had good success playing the European, open-court style. He played more at power forward in Spain, but he lacks the size to play that position at the NBA level. He could put up points, contest a few shots and combat under the boards to become a vital reserve as a “4” in a small lineup or a regular wing player.

sether1 - June 25, 2009
in other words, he needs to learn how to shoot.
awesome.
rolub - June 25, 2009
We’re just using him to harvest body parts. We are going to chop off his arms and sew them onto one of our guards.
Toxicadam - June 25, 2009
he was supposed to replace rubio on joventut
stats from last season:
2008-09 SEASON
Eyenga played in a total of 29 games; four with the DKV Joventut Badalona squad during Euroleague competition (replaced an injured Ricky Rubio on the roster) and 25 with the CB Prat Juventud team…Combined, he scored 335 points (11.6 per game), hitting 54.3 percent from two-point field goal range (100 of 184), 34.6 percent from 3-point territory (27 of 78) and 71.1 percent from the foul line (54 of 76) while logging a total of 774 minutes on the court…Charged with 65 personal fouls, but led the LEB-Silver Division with an average of 1.6 blocked shots per game (1.4 per game overall — 40 total blocks, including 39 in the LEB)…Grabbed 127 rebounds (4.4 per game), handed out 16 assists (0.6 per game) and had 27 steals (1.1 per game)…Scored in double figures in 18 of 25 games for Prat and twice had at least 10 rebounds.
sether1 - June 25, 2009
Sigh…. Damn it…
Bernie19Kosar - June 25, 2009
He’s young. At least we can develop him for the future.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
I have to say I’m disappointed. I’m waiting to hear what Ferry says about the pick tomorrow.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
looks like no one wants young
tarley - June 25, 2009
young at 46?
E5 - June 25, 2009
probably not but we can hope
tarley - June 25, 2009
Didn’t we trade 46 for Shaq?

DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
you think we can we need a good trading chip
tarley - June 25, 2009
i actually misspoke…i think this is a part of the “GET CHRIS BOSH IN 2010” plan…not now. i have no idea how we’d get him now, or how this pick plays into it.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
I thought so cause do we really have a lot were willing to part with besides Gibson
tarley - June 25, 2009
Sounds like a pick up to me
after reading about him, he would be perfect for defending guys like Lewis and Hedo. Granted he will not play this year but I like the pick now. Seeing as how Young and Summers are dropping we might get then at 46.
E5 - June 25, 2009
Summers to the Pistons.

Yea he is a big body

ESPN’s comment: “Must improve: One-on-one game.”
Well, Detroit, better throw out all those clear-out plays you planned on scheming for him.

Chase is the worst player in the Draft.
E5 - June 25, 2009
i thought we had drafted the nigerian nightmare … sadly we did not
jsneides - June 25, 2009
Ok, no one even that could remotely have a chance to make this team is still around.
E5 - June 25, 2009
er maybe Meeks be he will be gone or Ferry will pass on him.
E5 - June 25, 2009
I’m hoping we select some coffee bean farmer from South America and claim that we’re going to stash him away for a few years too.

Calathes is an easy pick if he’s still there.
ahowie - June 25, 2009
Apparently we disagree with stunning timing.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
That’s what we thought about Young, too. Mr. Ferry doesn’t share our opinion, apparently.
rolub - June 25, 2009
Calathas is not very good. I’d take both of the others over him.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
I bet we take him because he is already commited to playing overseas.
E5 - June 25, 2009
It didn’t even register with me about Green. I’d actually prefer Danny Green hands down.

Hardcore Legend - June 25, 2009
No way.
Bernie19Kosar - June 25, 2009
A stash pick for the Cavs. Ok, I guess. He was really AT the draft?
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Yeah, probably a big moment for him. I’ll bet he’s never been to the USA before.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
This was a Spurs move by the FO. No big surprise.
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Yeah that’s how they got Tony Parker.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Vyacheslav Kravtsov is still around {SARC}
E5 - June 25, 2009
Thank you Detriot Chase is off the board. Chase is a Wally with out any skill.
E5 - June 25, 2009
Chase makes me think of Luke Jackson.
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Yep only worse
E5 - June 25, 2009
Calathes to Minnesota. Another PG?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
There are either going to be a number of trades from Minnesota or an interesting depth chart.
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Calathes and Rubio staying overseas?
ahowie - June 25, 2009
I’m calling this next pic:
Nando De Colo
He’s from France so we can just deny him his Visa.
gahnki - June 25, 2009

dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Danny Green!
Coach Roy can go home now!
Hardcore Legend - June 25, 2009
Danny Green. Fans should like this one.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Danny Green.
Heck of a pick,
gahnki - June 25, 2009
Like this pick. Better not hinder FA signings though
ahowie - June 25, 2009
Shouldn’t. Such is the flexability of the 2nd round pick.
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Well, Green is fun.
dgcambridge - June 25, 2009
Danny Green is a solid pick here.
E5 - June 25, 2009
ESPN’s graphic said Must Improve: Athleticism. How in the hell do you improve your athleticism? Isn’t that something you’re born with?
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Yay, I know this guy cuz he played for UNC!
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
I think that’s what 90% of Cavs fans are thinking.
Now we get to hear about how he has a “winning mentality” because he’s from UNC and just won a national title, and that’s what is going to put the Cavs over the hump.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Eh, I’ll take it
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Oh, I wasn’t criticizing the pick. I think he’s what you’d expect for the second round.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
I was criticizing the stupidity of sports reporting.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
Oh I know, I’m just saying that in this case I can’t criticize at all because I know literally nothing about anyone in the draft unless they played for UNC, and only because my roommate is a tacit UNC fan and I totally sold out to jump on their bandwagon this year.
Turkmenbashi - June 25, 2009
Danny Green is an excellent perimeter shooter
who stepped in as the teams best perimeter defender after Ginyard was lost for the season. If it was late in a game and the Heels need a big shot, outside of Ellington, the ball went to Green.
Between Ellington and Green, the Heels were never out of a game. They were a 2 minute span of hot shooting of getting themselves back into it.
As a Heels fan, if he makes the roster, I’m ordering a uni.
Hardcore Legend - June 25, 2009
I’m pretty down with that.
gahnki - June 26, 2009
i’m good with danny green.
the more i think about eyenga, it’s gotta be a money thing. the cavs must be doing the same math that we were in another thread, and they see that their space under the projected 2010 cap is going to be SUPER tight as it relates to signing another max player (i.e. bosh).
stash this guy in europe and keep him off the books, and then i’m making a call right now…assuming next season is a good, playoff year, they will sell the first round pick…a la the lakers at 29. all with the intentional of saving every penny they can to get under the cap enough to sign a second max contract.
DontCallMeJoey - June 25, 2009
and then Eyenga will come off the bench to help Bron ‘n’ Bosh win it all. Championship number two for Bron. Count it

Yes, but can he play basketball, Jay? That’s an important one.
rolub - June 25, 2009
Completely forgot about Lester Hudson… would have liked to taken a flier on him.
rolub - June 25, 2009
If you’re a sophomore and get drafted 54th, don’t you reconsider the voices of reason you listen to?
rolub - June 25, 2009
You are still making more than you would have
in your Russian Literature class next fall.
Hardcore Legend - June 25, 2009
Assuming you make the roster.
Just as there’s gained value in entering the draft as an underclassmen, there’s value lost by entering too early.
rolub - June 25, 2009
Not necessarily, many second round picks don’t make the team. The point is he probably could have been drafted higher next year if he stayed in school and got guarenteed money.
Buckeye Brad - June 25, 2009
And I just realized Taylor Griffin was drafted. There literally have to be 100 guys with a better chance of becoming a pro basketball player than him. I can’t be persuaded otherwise.
rolub - June 25, 2009
He is not good
Roger Dorn - June 25, 2009

These foreign selections are just getting ridiculous. Fran Frischilla was dead silent when asked about him because he couldn’t Google him fast enough.
rolub - June 25, 2009
theres no way danny green is worse than wally, i see him getting a few minutes, shaq wont play every game and now that ben is gone and andy is at PF im betting green gets minutes when lebron is resting and he might play some back up SG too, from what i can gather on google he can shoot and hopefully brown can teach him how to play D, i could see him becoming the best player out of the 2nd round…although thats not saying much for this draft
CavsLebronFan - June 26, 2009
Green is one of the best defenders in college. His shooting form is better but he still needs work.
E5 - June 26, 2009
w/ sasha and wally gone, the cavs literally have ZERO size in the backcourt. green’s going to have to be able to put up some minutes.
DontCallMeJoey - June 26, 2009
Both were ineffective though, so their size really wasn’t important. The Cavs needed to upgrade from both those players if they are serious about winning a title
Roger Dorn - June 26, 2009
without question. it’s not that those two were great, as much as they were warm bodies who were capable of giving you at least some minutes as larger guards. wally guarded lewis somewhat effectively in the post, if you’ll remember, and sasha was effective in game 2. now, there is seriously not one big guard option (except when you move LeBron over) on the roster.
DontCallMeJoey - June 26, 2009
although, let me also say that while i agree that those two slots needed upgrading, i don’t think that has anything to do with being “serious” about taking home a ring. you’re probably right if we’re talking about building a dynasty, but it was quite easy to imagine this team winning a championship this past year w/ those guys getting 15 and 20 mpg.
